 Job Summary

DPI Specialty Foods, the Northwest's leading specialty foods distributor, currently seeks a Buyer to join our Procurement team at our Tualatin office. The buyer executes purchases of product for satisfaction of customer demand and maintenance of inventory levels consistent with company objectives.

 Requirements
  • Associates Degree and/or 3 years of purchasing or related experience.
  • Experience in the Food/Grocery Industry is a plus!
  • Ability to work independently in the field demonstrating strong work ethic, flexibility, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others effectively in a professional and flexible manner.
  • Must be competent in the following areas: analysis, generating creative solutions, project management, interpersonal skills, team building, written and oral communication, change management, leadership, quality management, cost consciousness, and strategic thinking..
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
     
Essential duties and responbilities include the following
  • Fully responsible for inventory levels, in-stock ratio minimum of 95% Raw (unadjusted) Rate, and inventory turns as set by the Director of Procurement.
  • Participates in appointments with vendors assigned as directed by the VP of Procurement.
  • Attends sales meetings to become familiar with customer's attitudes, preferences, and purchasing problems.
  • Creates/reviews purchase orders taking into account sales figures, seasonal trends, promotions, new authorizations, minimum shipments, code life, and inventory turns.
  • Contacts carriers regarding late shipments.
  • Coordinates freight related issues with Inboud Freight Manager.
  • Coordinates return of merchandise to vendors as directed by the VP of Procurement.
  • Generates purchase orders for assigned vendors which result in the meeting or exceeding of company goals and expectations for asset performance.
  • Manages inventory performance of assigned vendors and items including inventory levels, service level, turns, spoils, and aging.
  • Must have a working knowledge of all item cost factors with an ongoing responsibility to lower costs. Responsible for maintaining accurate costs on P.O's.
  • Maintains required system settings at an optimal level.
  • This position would work closely with sales and marketing to develop and execute optimal programs for customers.
